建制派立法會議員聯合聲明 (Joint statement by pro-Establishment LegCo members on Occupy Central Movement and strike actions correspondingly)
DAB Chairman Tam Yiu-chung leads other pro-Establishment to read out their statement that expresses their opposition against Occupy Central movement and “three strikes” by employers, employees and students respectively.
The protest actions that happened in recent days have been developed into confrontations with police. Occupy Central has brought profound effect on traffic, education, finance and tourism etc. All these have already disrupted our city in a way that our international reputation has been tainted for sure, while strikes cause nuisance to people’s daily routine. Teachers who go on strike are even what we see irresponsible to their students. We are feeling regret that Occupy Central movement has been escalated.
We are here to express our opposition against Occupy Central and actions that were staged to occupy major commercial areas. We appeal protestors and organisers to stop their action and leave the scene as quickly as possible to resume social order. We appeal citizens not to go on strike. Meanwhile, we oppose teachers to go on strike too as what they do is deprive students of their right of learning. Teachers, please stay in your position and let students live a normal life as a students without being embroiled into political struggles.
We support police to exercise their power according to law, to maintain social order. We believe in the professional judgment of the police. We expect that police can be more accountable to citizens by elaborating on their justification.
We hope that all Hong Kong people including students could say their views in a rational manner for the development of constitutional reform in Hong Kong by taking into consideration the actual condition in Hong Kong. We also hope that Hong Kong people can choose their Chief Executive by one-person-one-vote scheme in 2017.
